George Orwell (neé Eric Arthur Blair) was born in 1903 in India, where his father worked for the Civil Service. His family moved to England four years later and he studied and began writing in the U.K. Over several years, Orwell lived and worked in Paris, Spain, Morroco and Burma, all of which had a profound effect on his writing. Though he wrote many novels, essays and non-fiction, it is his political allegory Animal Farm together with his novel Nineteen Eighty-Four which brought Orwell world-wide fame.
